Otter Fishing - Bangladeash

I have never been to such a remote part of the country as this little village near Narail. It took days to get here from Dhaka. I asked from village to village where to go, and they kept pointing me downriver to the next one. It seemed like this type of fishing no longer existed. The search continued the next day when I was told to visit a small ''hutted'' housing area even further down the river. A man approached me, and when I showed him my phone, the next thing I knew, he was leading me to the river. About half an hour later, a boat pulled up, and we were warmly welcomed aboard.

Otter fishing in Bangladesh is a unique and ancient method of catching fish that has been practiced for centuries, particularly in the southern coastal regions like Narail, Khulna, and Satkhira. This traditional practice relies on trained otters to assist fishermen in driving fish into nets, a method that combines human skill with the natural hunting instincts of these animals. Though it has diminished in popularity due to modern fishing techniques, it remains a fascinating example of the symbiotic relationship between humans and wildlife.
